How to use the Say Something cards.

Conversational invitations

Conversation prompts can help steer conversations in the directions suggested by our purpose, passion, curiosity and creativity. Lay the cards out on a table for group participants to peruse. Ask them to select a card that appeals to them. Try one of these prompts:

  • Choose a photo that says something about you as a person.
  • Choose a photo that reminds you of a good time in your life.
  • Choose a photo that highlights one of your virtues.
  • Choose a photo that challenges you or makes you feel uncomfortable.

Be creative, devise your own prompts!

Once people have their card, invite them to sit in small groups and take turns sharing what they chose and why.

Reflection questions for deeper conversation

Once people have shared their photo and started discussing, have them go deeper by discussing these reflection questions:

  • Does this photo reveal more about your private self or public self?
  • Does this photo represent a significant time of change for you?
  • What is the deeper value or virtue that you hold dear, that is highlighted by this photo?
  • Is this photo aspirational? Does it represent a goal or someone you want to grow to be?

Creative writing for self-discovery

Instead of using the cards for conversation and connection, use them for self-discovery and growth. Have participants choose a card that appeals to them, randomly assign them or have group participants assign a card to each other.

Writing prompts:
